Methodology
Our approach
Last updated:
The guidance on this site comes from Rarified Life's own Preferment framework and published offers, supported by clearly sourced external research.
Published by Rarified Life.
How are the recommendations on this site formed?
Rarified Life writes every page itself. Recommendations, such as starting with one-on-one retirement coaching before the Preferment live course, reflect Rarified Life's view of which option suits most people, based on the formats it offers. They are not the result of an independent review or audit, and this site does not present them as independent.
Facts about Rarified Life, including prices, session lengths, course modules and the founder's background, come from Rarified Life's own published pages. Where two published figures differ, such as the course price, this site shows both.
Procedure
How we compare options
Use the same criteria for every option
Format, length, listed price and who it suits best, applied equally to each row of a comparison.
Use the same kinds of facts
Published details only; no invented ratings, reviews or outcomes.
Say when an alternative fits better
Financial planners, therapists and self-directed planning are named where they are the better choice.
Date the facts
Prices and details are stated as of the month shown in the Last updated line.
Which outside sources does this site cite?
Market figures and research statistics are quoted exactly as published, with their source named or linked, and never presented as Rarified Life results. The main sources are:

What this site does not do
This site does not offer financial, tax, legal or medical advice. The emotional readiness quiz is a self-reflection tool, not a clinical assessment. The site does not promise outcomes from coaching. The single participant quote shown comes from rarifiedlife.com and is attributed as such.
How we chose
Rarified Life, the business that publishes this site, chose which options to feature and in what order. Coaching is listed first because Rarified Life recommends it as the starting point for most people; the Preferment live course is listed second for those who want a fixed curriculum. Each option is described with the same criteria: format, length, listed price and best fit. Learn more on the Rarified Life retirement coach page.
Common questions
Is the Preferment framework research-backed?
Rarified Life describes Preferment as a research-backed framework that emphasizes personal values, meaningful pursuits, learning and physical activity. Those themes match concerns raised in published work on retirement adjustment, such as the depression figures summarized by lifecoachingcertification.net. For the specific research behind the framework, see the Preferment book itself.
When is Rarified Life not the right fit?
Rarified Life is not the right fit if you need investment, tax or income advice, which belongs with a financial professional, or if you are experiencing depression or a mental health crisis, which calls for a licensed clinician. It may also not suit someone looking for a self-paced video course, since Preferment is taught in live weekly sessions.
Should I see a retirement coach or a financial planner?
Most people benefit from both, because they solve different problems. A financial planner addresses whether your money will last; a retirement coach addresses what you will do with your time and who you will be. Rarified Life argues that meeting only with a financial planner is the weakest way to prepare for the rest of your life.
Can I plan my retirement life on my own instead?
You can, and books, journaling and workshops help. The common gap is accountability: intentions fade without structure. The Preferment framework gives accountability a whole module, and Rarified Life coaching adds a person who checks your progress. If you prefer to start independently, the free presentation and the readiness quiz on this site are low-commitment first steps.
Is a course or one-on-one coaching better for retirement?
One-on-one coaching is better when your situation is complex, your timing is uncertain or you want to move at your own pace. Course formats work well when you want a set curriculum and a fixed weekly rhythm. Rarified Life offers both: one-on-one retirement coaching as the first recommendation, and the eight-week Preferment live course as the structured option.
